At the Yoga Lounge we serve delicious vegetarian cuisine which is cooked with love and devotion. The meal usually consists of rice, dhal (lentil soup), 2 subjis (vegetable curry), savoury, chutney & a sweet. The food is cooked in traditional north Indian style with mild spicing. The food is cooked without any meat, fish or eggs.

The Yogic Diet

Yoga is not simply a form of exercise but a lifestyle and eating is definitely an integral part of our life. The type of food we eat often reflects our level of consciousness. “You are what you eat” as the saying goes. Therefore yoga recommends a pure vegetarian or sattvic diet. This is a diet that encourages the development of peace, love and awareness. Eating is one of our most primary interactions with our environment. If that is not based on love and compassion then all our action are bound to follow.

The human digestive system is that of a vegetarian animal. Animal tissues cannot be readily broken down into human tissues and instead its animal energies are preserved and become substituted for human tissue. Meat therefore brings the tendencies of carnivorous animals to function within us. This promotes anger, lust, fear and other negative emotions. Meat diet communicates the energies of destruction to the cells, which promotes the process of disease and decay within them. It brings the subtle energy of death into the auric field, weighing it down with the negative feelings and impressions of the animals we have eaten. Meat also produces a heavy or tamasic type of tissue that clogs the channels and makes the mind dull.

Add the effect the production of meat is having on the environment in terms of destruction of rain forest, pollution of land and water and increased difficulty of sustaining a meat diet for the ever increasing human population. We cannot truly evolve as a species and go beyond war and crime until we give up eating our animal brothers and sisters.
